Purple + pink + green + blue = adorable! |
We loved the color combination of those chairs so much that we decided to run with them. And run we did!
Over the last several weeks, we had been collecting wooden alphabet letters from Michael's with the intention of painting them in our four theme colors and putting them around the room. We also found a très adorable carpet from Pottery Barn Kids that we fell in love with that just had to have a home in our home!
Like I said, très adorable! |
And since we knew exactly what we wanted for our little ledge for our letters, we headed over to Home Depot, bought some very simple pre-painted moulding, and called up Brian's parents, Tom and Mary, to help us with the handy work and promised to repay them with a stuffed shells pasta dinner which we all partook in! Tom is incredible when it comes to these kinds of projects. He has every tool imaginable and knows exactly how to get things done efficiently!
He even has laser beams that come out of his finger for a perfectly straight line! |
(Ok, so the laser beam thing might be a slight exaggeration, but Tom is nothing short of AMAZING when it comes to our house projects and design ideas!)
After the moulding was hung and the dinner was done, Mary, Tom and Brian's Aunt Judy headed home and Brian and I popped in Captain Phillips and began our letter painting. I think I painted 24 of the 26 letters but who's counting!? (I was.) I enjoyed painting anyway plus it kept me awake for an entire movie! That is a success in and of itself these days.
We *love* the color combo! |
Once we got all of the letters painted and allowed them to dry, we hung them all around our new ledge in the room. And it turned out fantastically!
Not to toot our own horn or anything but this is one cool play area! |
We still have art to hang, furniture to move out, and toys to move in, but our alphabet letters and new rug are a start and we are so happy with how they turned out!
Side Note: I know that Kate will love having a little play room. I think it will be nice for her too, but there's a very big part of me that would just rather keep all of her toys out in the living room so that when we play we can all still be together in one room. I keep convincing myself that we will all still be together but I'd be lying if I said not seeing her toys scattered about our living room wouldn't make me sad. Perhaps we can just leave a handful of toys out?!
After all, it's a living room, right?!
