I hear a lot that my kids want time with "just me and you". Kate started saying it and of course Maya picked up on it quickly. It's hard for me to get time individually with them (well, with Maya it's a bit easier now that Kate is in school) but with Kate it's a bit more challenging. And Maya's feelings get hurt easily when she hears that she's staying home while Kate and I do something fun. So then we all end up going.
I have a real soft spot for this type of conversation though because I remember always wanting more one on one time with my own Mom. She was a working Mom of four, so you can bet that her time was spread pretty thin.
Nevertheless, I surprised Kate after school today while Carly (our fantastic sitter) stayed with Maya. I picked her up and told her it was just her and me for THREE HOURS! And she had the reigns!
We had lunch at Chipotle, we got our nails done, we went to the park, and we got ice cream. (This was all after we couldn't fit zip lining and ice skating in...) And it was wonderful just her and I. She was beaming when she realized we had time together. I love that!

In the morning Kate said, "I got it from here, Mom." Seriously. |

My amazing first born. She is one incredible kid and I sometimes wonder how I got to be so lucky to be her Mama. |
