Breakfast with Santa - 2012. |
In addition to scrambled eggs and sausage, there are pastries, danishes, doughnuts, some sort of cinnamon-y puff deliciousness, cookies, cupcakes, and several varieties of juices. Seriously. Half of the fun is being able to have cookies and cupcakes for breakfast! I imagine that is what the elves do. When in Rome, right?!
Once you are through with breakfast, you have the opportunity to send your parent(s) to wait in the line for Santa while you partake in all of the [reindeer] games and collect various holiday themed prizes. There is the Snowball game where a little cotton ball is placed beneath a box. That box is then swapped around with two others, so you have to keep a close eye on the one with the snowball! Then there are Christmas bags - the typical bag game with a festive board! (Kate would've played this one all day.) There is an opportunity to dress up and be a part of the manger. (Kate was an angel this year.) And then there's a penguin game, a wreath toss (which Kate also loved), and a holiday rope toss (we didn't get to that one this year, but I know Kate would've loved that one too). Then, of course, there is the reindeer games training camp! A small little obstacle course that requires you to run, jump, walk, and balance over various holiday props! (This was also a fav of Kate's!)
By the time you are through with all of your games, your parent(s) have waited patiently in the Santa line and you are nearly next! Then you get to sit with Santa which Kate didn't really mind so long as it was only for a moment.
After a quick visit with Santa, there is a place to write a letter and/or wish list to Santa. This year we wished Santa a very merry Christmas and put our letter in the mailbox. Last but not least, we got to see part of the puppet show.
And, as if all of the above wasn't enough, all of the children volunteers (and there are A LOT) get to dress up as elves and hand out candy (it seriously is one of the cutest things about the whole affair!), there is a little area outside with real live animals (this year we saw a donkey and a calf), there is a train track with a running train, and a little area to decorate your own ornament.
AND, IT'S FREE!!! IT'S ALL FREE! I cannot speak highly enough about this wonderful function. It's a blast for the kiddos and it's fun for the adults too. Sunbury United Methodist Church does a phenomenal job putting this event together and we are very grateful that we have had the opportunity to be a part of it for the past two years!
We are very much looking forward to many Breakfasts with Santa in the future!
