Easter Business

We have had a lot of Easter-y things going on recently and today was no exception.  We attended our local Easter Egg Hunt (which was a major fail) and dyed eggs today.  More on both of those in a minute, but before we get to them we have a few other Easter related photos to share.

First, I found these AMAZING Easter egg lights at Target for $3/pack.  They are battery operated and glitter-y and so cool!  We strung a set over Kate's play kitchen and also put another set in her bedroom.  We've been using these as our light source while we read books at night instead of the twinkle lights recently since they are so festive and Kate LOVES them!

Making sure they are all set and won't fall down.

It's glow time!

I love being able to incorporate easy festive items in Kate's room and will definitely be doing it in Sister Bear's room too.  I think it makes the holidays more fun when you're able to celebrate all around the house!

Second, yesterday Kate dyed and Easter egg at her school.  She picked the color pink to dye her egg and we were able to bring them home.  Because the eggs were placed in plastic bags, the condensation on the egg and the bag started rubbing together.  When we sat in the car, Kate looked at the egg and then looked at me and said, 'alligator'.  At first I was confused but then I saw how similar the egg DID look like an alligator:

It's our pink alligator Easter egg!

I thought it was adorable how she associated the two and that TOTALLY looks like an alligator!  I would 100% agree!

Now, on to more Easter schtuff!

Last year we attended our local Easter Egg Hunt with Kate's cousin's Audrey and Carter.  We really enjoyed going to this Easter Egg Hunt and have made it a tradition to continue to go back each year.  This year panned out a tad differently, however.  First, Brian's parents were planning on joining us so they were meeting at our house and we were all going to go together.  I had the brilliant idea to try a new brownie recipe that I had found online that included brownies and Cadbury Creme Eggs.  Win-win, right?!  Wrong.  I read the directions and had the brownies in the oven and they took WAY longer to cook than normal.  Is this because of the candies?  I don't know and I still don't know if we are being honest.  So we ended up getting to the egg hunt literally as the officials were counting down the minutes to start the hoarding.

Now, Kate is very much one that needs some warm up time.  I can appreciate this.  Jumping in is not her M.O.  Because of my Cadbury Brownie attempt gone wrong, we did not have any warm up time, which meant Kate wanted nothing to do with picking up candies on the grass.  She just wanted me to hold her.  In addition, the ground was super muddy and I wore my boots that were not conducive to this kind of trudging, so I got pretty muddy too.

3-2-1 - GO!

Riiight.

Brian and I were literally picking up sweets and
putting them in Kate's basket.

Because seeing that you get to pick up candy off
of the ground is fun right?

Wrong.  She'd rather just be held and take in the scene.

So we went and said hello to the Easter Bunny instead of hunting
for sweets.

Papaw, Mimi, Kate, and Mommy...and the Golden Bear with bunny ears!

Our crew!

Our 2015 experience with this Easter Egg Hunt was a complete fail.  Not because of the hunt itself but because of the poor timing that I had scheduled.  The brownies weren't fully cooked, Kate wanted nothing to do with the egg hunt, or the Easter bunny, or anything but me for that matter, my boots got all muddy, and I felt like the day was ruined because of me.

I may or may not have shed a tear or two when we got home but I didn't have much time to dwell on my failure because we had egg dying and more company coming over for lunch on the agenda.  #pregnant  #hormones  #problems

Mimi and Papaw help us get set up!

Kate likes the stickers for her shirt more than the eggs at this point.

Kate and Mimi!

Kate oversees the dying!

So many color options!

Kate was the official helper deciding what color we should use
and then putting the freshly dyed eggs in the drying holder.

One orange coming right up!

Dying success!

Brian's grandparents (Kate's Greats) and his Aunt Di and Uncle Mike came over to join us for lunch.  We had subs and despite the morning starting off unsuccessfully we quickly turned it into a pleasant early afternoon!

I'm learning this whole Mom/scheduling/planning/time allotment thing along the way.  Next year, we'll be doing this with two kiddos!  Two little girlies!  I can hardly believe it!
